XP desktop to Vista laptop

Hi all, I bought hubby a brand new laptop running Vista for xmas. We had a successful network with his old laptop using a Dlink router to connect to the cable Internet and sharing on my desktop both running XP Pro. We have an external hard drive connected to my desktop which we have always been able to access using the laptop cabled to router.

The new laptop connects to the Internet through the router using the wireless connectivity not a problem with that. We tried to connect to my desktop without success. I renamed the workgroup to the same name as both computers, my desktop and the old laptop sees the new Vista laptop but it cannot see the other two computers.

The network discovery is on, file sharing is on and public folder sharing is on. The network is set to private and the windows firewall is off however the norton the came with the computer is on.

Any ideas why our computers can see the Vista laptop but the Vista can't see ours?

Any help is much appreciated.

Oh, I did run the wizard on the XP desktop with no luck. Also, both desktop and old laptop both run ZoneAlarm Security Suite.

Uninstall all the 3rd party firewalls and use the Windows firewall with file and print sharing enabled in the exception list.

Send a message via AIM to Panama Red
Seems like Vista needs a password in order to function on a network correctly.
