Network Printer offline for no reason
I share an HP 7310 printer on my Linksys router network. However, we frequently are unable to print to it because the printer shows up as being offline on our computers. At various times, I've done the following to resolve the issue:
1. Shutting down the router and the printer and sequentionally bringing them up 2. Rebooting the computers 3. Choosing "the work offline" option and then immediatley selecting the "the work online" for the printer. This is my latest trick that seemed to work with the Vista computers today. I always make sure that the printer has received a proper address via DHCP. XP and Vista computers seem to be more affected than Windows 98 and 2000 computers. Any reason why this may be happening? I waste a lot of time dealing with this. thanks E Steve K |

When I install HP multifunction devices that have an internal print server, I always assign it a static IP through the front panel menus, then install it on each computer with the CD. I just do not trust DHCP printer ports.
