my router isn't working

connect it up ethernet works fine so does wireless but the internet connection doesnt work and its annoying me.

Fine, but watched the language.. even masked, it's not welcomed here. Sounds like your router is either incorrectly configured or not picking up an IP address from your provider.

who is your service provider, and is it dsl or cable modem ?

some providers need the mac address of the router to set it up on there system.

mine needs the mac address on the modem and the router both.

router is a philips snk5600
my isp is eclipse internet
my old router is zyxel p660 (thats the seriese but this one looks like a small blue box) and it works

i have done the following over the course of my old routers existance forwarded two ports tried and failed to aquire a static ip so i reverted to dynamic and i have had to reactivate the internet conection numerouse times

Have you power cycled the modem since switching out the routers? Some ISPs still require you to register the MAC address of you router, but with most nowadays you just need to unplug the modem and plug it back in to get it to accept a new device. This is assuming your ISP is a cable company. If the connection is DSL, you will need to properly setup your PPPoE account, which involves putting the modem in bridge mode, setting up the router to be a PPPoE client, and entering your login information.
