Trend Micro PC Cillin?

Has anyone else out there used Trend Micro PC Cillin? I'm actually using it now, the 08 version and it has REALLY helped me out, blocking a couple of hacks that kept shutting my PC down. I was just wondering if anyone else had tried it, or would recommend something else.

I'm an IT student at the local CC, and they have awesome software discounts, going to see what I can get over there tomorrow or Monday.

Other than that, does anyone else have security software recommendations? I'm building a new PC in March and it could come in handy.

The programs I use are:

Avast Anti-Virus
AVG Antispyware
Spybot S&D
Spyware Blaster
CCleaner

And they're all free.

I've also set up a few other computers with that set up and have found it works well.

I use PC-cillin Internet Security on this PC, on my other one (sig pc) I use Avast. Avast seems leaner and lighter, but obviously has far fewer features. I think Trend's software is less bloated and buggy than Norton, about the same as McAfee which I have on my work PC.

I don't plan to renew this license when it expires though, I'll probably switch to Avast for this unit too.

After having used Trend PCC for nearly 5-6 years, I've had it with their renewal policies. I got rid of my expired PCC for AVG. While I've always found them to make an ultra-reliable product (as opposed to Norton or McAfee), I was getting quite sick of the bloat.

The AVG Internet Security suite is a great product and licensing is considerably cheaper than the "big 3".

PCTools have the same policy - though I'll never recommend any of their products as they not any good. Their anti-virus doesn't even support fast-user switching, so you can forget about feeling secure with multiple accounts unless you remember to shut it down each and every time someone else logs on.

TrendMicro doesn't do it for me. Last test I did of it it failed to detect a large majority of malicious websites - the free McAfee Site Advisor protects you better than TM's download and check system. Only thing that impressed me was it's phishing email and spam detection; caught a lot more than Norton 2008, McAfee, Kaspersky and AVG Internet Security suite. But it failed to detect as many email viruses as Kaspersky. During my many tests.

Kaspersky, Esnet and Steganos are the best out there currently. Steganos is based off Kaspersky code but is cheaper.

Since 2003 I've uses AVG Pro.. My first 3 yrs I only paid once.. The next two were free when they updated from 6.0 to 7.0.. My forth yr I paid again, and since haven't had to pay yet.. So five yrs and going and ony paind for 2 can't beat that..

AVG generally sells 2 year licenses for around the same price as a 1 year license for one of the "big 3".

True glc, but there the only ones I know who also gave a yr or two as in my case free, just for udgrading..
