help troubleshooting connection
Had to re-install XP pro on a newly installed hard drive. left the old one in too - can't boot from it. Have DSL, linksys router, several other computers all working but my PC won't connect to the internet. It says there's a connection in Network connections. Repaired it. says "failed to query TCP/IP settings". Have a feeling the Motheboard is not transferring data into the ethernet jack. any help greatly appreciated!

Check in Device manager make sure the NIC drivers are installed. If the drivers are installed try pinging your Network Card open the cmd.exe then type ping 127.0.0.1 If the ping command comes back with 4 packets recieved then the NIC is good. I would then power down the router, and modem wait for about 1 minute then plug in the modem, wait for another minute then plug in the router.
