New to Vista; need to transfer files

Hi Folks,
My daughter has a new HP laptop running Vista (which I've never used before) and I need to transfer a lot of files off my XP machine to her Vista Laptop. I have a shared drive on my XP machine that the other XP machines in the house can see. We're all on the same workgroup name. I don't know where to go in Vista (on the laptop) to see my shared XP drive. I poked around a bit and could not figure it out. TIA

Network Explore is where you should see other computers.

I went into "Network" off the start menu (is that correct?) and all I see is the name of the Vista laptop. Sorry for the basic question, but Vista is foreign to me. The network is set to Private.

Just so I understand you Ron, when you open the Network option from the Vista (laptop) Start menu, all you see is the icon for the laptop? You can't see any of the other pc's in the work group? If that's true, try adding a password to the Vista machine. Vista is kinda picky about having a password before it will network properly.

Make sure Network Discovery is on in Network and Sharing Center.

or just type \\computername where computername is the name or ip address of the xp computer in the search area at the bottom of the vista start menu.

Correct, the Vista machine can't see the other pc's in the Workgroup. As to the password, my daughter logs into Vista with a password, if that's what your referring to.

As to the IP method the other member suggested, I'll give that a try too; it's just that I don't know where things are in Vista but I need to figure it out at some point.

Click the start menu, there's a big white box at the bottom where you can enter text. Enter \\hostname (or \\IP) in this box.

OK, I tried that and still no luck. Vista says "network path not found" under the details tab.
