How to tell if IP is Static

I have the bellsouth package that includes a free static ip. I have a second computer i want to install vent chat server on and it needs a static ip. I know my IP address, how do i tell if it is static or dynamic?

Ask your ISP; that's the most direct way. Other than that, you would just have to monitor your IP over a long period of time and see if it ever changes. Most ISPs have rules against running servers so you might want to look into that as well. However, the reason they give you a static IP is so you can run a server so that might not be an issue here.

Do you get multiple IP's or is it a single static? If it's a single IP, you will need a router, and you will need to set up THAT server with a static LOCAL IP and forward the required ports in the router admin.

Well, i just found out that although i get a free Static Ip....i had not signed up for it. So I just did that and Im trying to find out if I have to wait for them to mail it to me(estimated delivery 2/28) or if it can be emailed or something.

I just bought a Netgear wireless router and have both computers getting a very good connection. Although I seem to be getting a high ping(in game) after turning on the Wap(sp?....the security option) so I might try turning that off and see what happens.

What i am thinking of doing is haveing my second computer be monitor/mouse/keyboard free.... and having only this vent server loading with windows....nothing else.

....well as i am typing this tech support gave me the Static IP, now to just figure out my router. :P

Instead of headless, you can use a KVM switch.
