Help!!!!!!!!!!
I am fixing a computer that someone let me have. I wanted to put a nic in it. Is this etherfast PCI Adaptor the same as a nic? (In other words same thing, different name.) If so, I installed it and installed the drivers, but need to know how to set up a connection in Windows 98SE. The card was recognized and the drivers installed. It had a message about not seeing an address. (Can't recall the exact message now, sorry.)

Exactly what do you have it connected to? It should connect to a broadband router with no additional configuration other than installing the drivers and verifying TCP/IP is installed.

The same connection I am using to get online with the other computer.
I have the modem from SBC connected to this: http://www.dlink.ca/products/?sec=1&pid=62 I looked at the message. It says No domain server was available to validate your password. You may not be able to gain access to some network resources. What is the TCP/IP you were referring to? Last edited by j.b.huntress; 02-24-2008 at 06:55 AM. |

I found some stuff that gives me a hint using Google. Maybe the harddrive I was using to make sure everything was working only had 98 (not SE.) I was going to transfer data from another harddrive, wipe it and install SE from the disk it came with anyhow, so I will give that a try. The harddrive with this computer was hosed, the power button broken. I fixed both of those and traded video cards, so hopefully if I put a fresh install on the other hard drive and make it the primary one I will be fine. I will update here. Or if someone has any suggestions to get it going until I can, I will try them.

You have domain selected in the network properties. This should not be.
It's been a while since I worked on a 98 machine, but go to control panel, networks. On the main page, if you have Client for Microsoft Networks there, go into its properties, and in there you need to deselect the login to a NT Domain. Back on the main page, set the primary logon to Windows Logon. I *think* this will take care of it. Make sure TCP/IP is in there. |
