internet connection sharing question

I think this will work but not sure. I have a computer running XP that is connected to my Parks wifi. I am using a "EnGenius" usb adapter to make the wifi connection. This computer has a built in NIC. If I take a cable from this computer and connect it to my router my other computers should also be able to connect to the internet. Right?? Of course I have to enable "internet connection sharing" on the first computer. The cable will need to be a regular cable not a cross over cable. Right? Thanks ahead of time!

The cable coming out would go straight to the second pc...

Should be much easier to plug the second pc directly to the router. This way the first pc doesn't have to turned on all the time.

If I don't connect to the router from the first computer the router it will not get any signal. I am sorry I failed to say that I have several computers that need to get online.

Is the router a wireless router? Are the other computers going to connect to the router with wireless or with cables? You should be able to connect to the wifi in client mode. I know it's easy to do in my custom DD-WRt firmware but I'm not sure it's an option on all routers. The best solution is probably to pickup a wireless bridge, connect to the wifi with that, and then connect that to either the router or just a simple switch.

I think I should have given more information. Here is the way my network is now. I have DSL connected to a Linksys router. I have two XP computers and two computers running PCLinuxOS. All four are connected by cable. There is a laptop running XP that connects wireless.
This is what I want to do. I want to connect one of the XP computers wireless to the Park's wifi using a wireless USB adapter. On that computer I will enable "Internet connection sharing". From that computer I will connect to the router using the built in NIC. I think the cable must not be a "crossover cable". Will this work? If not what else do I need to do in order for it to work?

Wouldn't a wireless router just make things easier?

The Linksys router is both wireless and wired. If I went completely wireless I would have to buy three more wireless cards.

Maybe I'm missing something here, but you can use the router for both wired and wireless connections. That way all computers are on the same network, and all have internet.

I don't know if you are missing something are not, but this is what I want to do.

I guess I will just have to try it and see if it does.

Are you trying to steal wifi from the park and stop paying for DSL? I guess I just don't get what you're trying to accomplish, since you already have internet and all computers connected to your wireless router, whether by cable or wifi.

Well then, if it's a legitimate, long term setup, it's worth doing right. Get a wireless bridge and connect it to the WAN side of your router and leave your computers behind it connected in the same way they are now.

OK mojo I take it that my idea is not the way to go. I know nothing about a wireless bridge so pardon what must be a dumb question. Will the bridge receive the signal from the wifi? If so do you know of one that has a removable antenna? I will need to connect an external (outside) antenna to it.

Oh is there a spell checker on this forum? I could sure use one.

Yes, a bridge receives the signal from wifi and converts it to a regular ethernet connection. I don't use any bridges so I don't know of any off the top of my head that have removable antennas, but I'm sure there are some out there. Do a search for yourself or wait for someone else to chime in here.
