Wireless drive sharing?

Im trying to find out if this is possible first off:

My current computer, is upstairs. The cable modem and wireless-g router are downstairs connected to a different computer. The CPU I am on, (upstairs), is connected via wireless.

What I want to know is if there is some sort of way to install a hard drive onto the ROUTER. What I want to be able to do is if I save something on the drive while downstairs, I want to be able to grab it and put it on the PC upstairs and vica versa.

So basically, do they make any kind of hard drive that can be purchased that would connected straight to the router, and that both CPU's could access at anytime?

Hi,

You may want to check out the Linksys WRTSL54GS.

It maybe what you are looking for.

Why don't you just share a folder on one of the 2 computers?

Ok well here goes. I have managed to map a network drive. The computer downstairs can connect to the folder that I am sharing upstairs, but the computer upstairs, will not connect to downstairs. What I did was share the folder up here and get the IP. I went downstairs, went to map network drive, selected m, and put \\ip\foldername and it WORKED downstairs but when I tried to reverse that, and connect to the downstairs computer from upstairs, it wouldnt find it. I did the same process, but the IP was of course different, and the folder name I made different also.

I am trying to share a few music files from a local band. While downstairs, I can VIEW the files on drive M, which is the mapped network drive, but it will NOT PLAY anything from the drive.

And the Microsoft website is a little confusing to follow.

Basically put - I'm trying to share a MUTUAL folder between the 2 computers on the network. If I download a file into the shared folder from downstairs I want to be able to listen to it upstairs without having to download it again. That is possible, correct?

You only need to share a folder on one computer and just access it from both of them. If you want to be able to write to the folder from either computer, make sure the box is checked to allow network users to change the folder.

That is checked. But anytime the downstairs pc, which is viewing the shared drive from MY pc, whenever it tries to access files, it will not play them. In other words it will not play anything from the network drive. It also WILL NOT copy files from the network drive to its hard drive. It IS though, seeing the files.

instead of mapping the drive just go to start, run, and type \\computer\folder. There's not really any need to map the drive.

Try connecting directly to the IP address like you tired but without the shared folder.
