Optimized DSL Settiings for XP

I'm looking to tweak my settings to get the absolute most out of my DSL connection. There are lots of programs out there to purchase which leads me to think that optimizing the connection speed requires more than my user-level's knowledge to accomplish. Here's my data: Windows xp Home updated, Netgear DG834GB wireless router (using wired connection), download speed - 2866 kbps, upload speed - 360 kbps. Upgrading to an N-capable router would probably do the trick but I'm not interested in pouring more money into this just yet unless it is a last resort.

As far as I know I don't think there is a whole lot you can do. Your speed is capped by your DSL provider and upgrading to a Draft-N router will not increase your DSL speed.

Your speeds are right in the ballpark for a common 3000/384 DSL package, you can expect up to 15% less speed than advertised due to TCP and PPPoE overhead. Replacing your router or buying a software package will not do anything for you. XP can be optimized though - go to dslreports.com, choose tools, then tweak tests. Run the tests and follow the recommendations.
