cables

Hi

I have 2 pcs 1 running win me and the other running win 98. I have installed 2 network cards but i bought the wrong cable to connect 2 pcs i heard that i need a cross over cable does any one know where to get this in the uk.

Any decent computer/electronics store should have them. Radio Shack/Best Buy are such places here. I don't know if you have them in the UK, but I'm sure you have something similar.

just a thought ... if you plan on adding another computer to this network soon, an option is to keep the straight through cable and use it with a hub or a switch.
This will probably not be the plan for pc3000 as the cable can probably be returned ... but if it couldn't, another plug could be put on it at one of the ends to make it a cross over cable.

ok

Its ok i found a cable.

But i have another question does the power lead have to be pluged into the network card to work?.

Power lead? You sure you arent talking about the Wake-on-LAN cable? If that's what it is, no, you don't need it.

*shrugs* Its a cable that plugs into a white power socket on the motherboard so it must be the wake on lan.

Would any one like to write a guide here on how to set up the comps so they see each other on the network.
