Modem/router channel setting

Hi Gang

I have had this problem for literally years, now don't laugh. So in this time period I have had a few different wireless phones, and modems and routers.

Now the problem, when ever I get a phone call it breaks my DSL connection, and I see the 2wire Modem/router start to blinking. It usually will reset itself in time and on we go. I have a Panasonic 5.8 GHZ phone, and I bought it thinking this will solve my problem because of the higher GHZ.

Now looking into my 2wire settings, I found where you can change the channels it is working on. 11 of them. Mine is currently set at the 6th setting 2.437 MHZ. Should I change these settings on the 2wire, since I cannot change the channels on the phone. The phone is about 7/8 ft away from the 2wire. Any help appreciated. I have a separate DSL line run from the box to my 2wire.

Thanx.......Gunny

I doubt it will help, but you can try channel 1 or channel 11.

A 5.8 Ghz phone will not interfere with wireless-G. Your problem does not sound like wireless interference, it sounds more like a phone line problem. I'd replace your DSL filters first. Make sure if you are using a splitter filter, you have the modem and phone plugged into the right ports on the filter.

Hi GLC

I meant to add that this computer and the one my wife uses are wired, not wireless. I have changed all the filters, and they are the current ones I got with this 2wire. She is tagged onto my connection, so naturally if it drops me it drops her.

Thanx.....Gunny

Right. That's why I'm saying the wireless channel should not make a difference. Something is coming through the phone line to kick the 2Wire off line unless the 2Wire is that RF-sensitive. If it is, the only fix is to move the phone farther away or use a corded phone near the computer. If the phone were causing interference - such as what 2.4 GHz phones do - it would not cause the modem to drop sync, all it would do is kill the wireless connection.

Ok I was always under the impression that wireless is slower then wired, and more subseptabe to poachers. Is this picking the fly **** out of the pepper.? So are you saying I would have a better chance of being dropped, either wired or wireless.?

Thanx....Gunny

Wired or wireless is NOT the issue the way I read it - the MODEM section of the router is dropping sync, right?

That is correct. So you are saying it is in the DSL line to the Modem/Router, that is being interfered with.? Some thing not being filtered out. So that would mean even though I have a designated DSL line, it either is not right, connected right, etc.?

Thanx....Gunny

It's either that, or the modem/router is not RF shielded well enough and the mere presence of a high power cordless phone that close to it is knocking it offline. I really think you need to check your filters again.

Move the cordless phone and base station as far away as you can from the router and see if it still does it. If it does, it's a line issue. If it doesn't, the router is not well shielded.
