Trying To Connect PS3 To PC To Stream Mp3's And Video

I am trying to set my PC up to stream mp3's etc to my PC using Windows Media Player 11 (windows xp pro). When I select Media Sharing in Windows Media Player 11 (obviously with the PS3 switched on), nothing is being displayed in the window, it should list as unkown device. I also have Zonealarm on my PC but have tried switching it off and this does not help. The Windows Firewall is also disabled. I have the media server connection enabled on the PS3. I was wondering do I need to set up some kind of service/rule for using the PS3 with my Netgear Router? Do I need to assign the PS3 a static IP address or something? I am using a Netgear 834 wireless router by the way.
