Can't connect to the internet

I've got two computers set up on a network (one on XP, one on Vista). Earlier today, I couldn't connect to the internet on either computer, so I reset the modem and router, and after that, the Vista machine was able to connect, but the XP machine still hasn't been able to.

I've restarted the machine multiple times, run the Network Diagnostics tool (everything passes, I guess), and tried the "pinging test" (everything was fine there, as well). I scanned the computer using Spybot and eliminated all of the spyware that came up.

I'm at a loss as to what I should try next. Any help?

Are you by any chance using Zone Alarm? If so, read this: http://forum.pcmech.com/showthread.php?t=199007

Send a message via AIM to Panama Red
I had a customer recently who couldn't connect with an XP machine. His AVG would update and he could connect with anything but his browser - IE7. I had him use Add/Remove Programs to remove IE7 and go back to IE6 temporarily and he was able to connect without further issues. He then reinstalled IE7 from Windows/Microsoft Update. First check would be if you can update with AVG or Spybot. This would bypass your internet browser.

Panama Red, I should have mentioned that I had already tried updating Spybot (didn't work) and had tried both IE and FF.

EzyStvy, yes, I am using Zone Alarm, and yep, that was the problem. Thanks! Works like a charm, now
