Why the lag??
I'm playing eq2(Everquest2) on a 3 year old computer roughly. I've made some upgrades, and changed location. I'm experiencing choppiness, lag etc. Even when i'm playing on the LOWEST performance settings.
My system is: DFI LANPARTY nF4 Ultra- motherboard AMD Athlon 64 2.2 GHz processsor Nvidia 7800 GT video card 2 Gb of Kingston DDR2 RAM Western Digital Raptor 36Gb SATA 1.5Gb/s HDrive 19" LCD monitor running at 1280x1024 Road Runner High Speed Online(9800kb/s download, and 380 kb/s upload) Windows XP After inspecting EQ2's website for recommended system req's i realized that i surpassed the minimum AND the recommended. So I decided to inspect my network. I saw that my ping is consistently close to 800 and my Fps is closer to 10, or even 6 when i'm running around in zone. I have NO OTHER programs running in the background. After noticing this trouble I ran a Trace test to the Befallen server from 2 different locations the first was My EQ computer and it read out as follows: Tracing route to ableq2-01-01.everquest2.com [199.108.202.33] over a maximum of 30 hops: 1 7 ms 8 ms 7 ms 10.108.48.1 2 8 ms 11 ms 8 ms pos0-0.rochnystf-rtr01.nyroc.rr.com [24.93.2.81] 3 11 ms 11 ms 7 ms srp2-0.rochnybtn-rtr01.nyroc.rr.com [24.93.3.120 ] 4 284 ms 294 ms 285 ms ge-6-0-0.albynywav-rtr03.nyroc.rr.com [24.92.224 .122] 5 279 ms 284 ms 316 ms ae-5-0.cr0.nyc30.tbone.rr.com [66.109.6.74] 6 303 ms 302 ms 311 ms ae-1-0.pr0.nyc20.tbone.rr.com [66.109.6.163] 7 305 ms 312 ms 293 ms tge5-3.fr4.lga.llnw.net [69.28.152.241] 8 300 ms 307 ms 317 ms tge2-3.fr4.iad.llnw.net [69.28.171.153] 9 37 ms 34 ms 36 ms sony.ge4-12.fr4.iad.llnw.net [69.28.156.214] 10 318 ms 306 ms 312 ms vl47.ashaens-2.sonyonline.net [64.37.144.181] 11 306 ms 306 ms 303 ms ableq2-01-01.everquest2.com [199.108.202.33] Trace complete. After running more traces... i got a pretty consistent 300ms outcome. Wondering If someone can explain the trouble i seem to be having here?? Why the jump and delay? |

Ping time of 800ms is pretty long and would indicate network/ISP problems.
Just did a ping to the Everquest IP in your test and got a 64ms time.

It's definitely an ISP issue because your ping times to the ISP's first and second router are fine. That looks like quite a bit of lag between Rochester and Albany.
