Question internet connection

I'm using a desktop and my friend is using a laptop. I have DSL internet connection for my desktop. My friend wants to be able to share the connection with me. Can you explain how can we share with same DSL connection? Wireless? How?

Thanks,
Chloe

You will need to use a router to share the connection, your modem may have a router already what type, and model is your modem.

Thanks Mikel for your response.

SPEEDSTREAM 5100
Ethernet ADSL Moderm

On the back of the modem, there is a power connection, Ethernet port, and DSL port. I guess it doesn't have a router built in.

Thank you,
Chloe

If your looking to purchase a router the Linksys WRT54GL is a common piece of hardware around this forum, you will also have to bridge the modem then set your router for PPPoE

Also when setting up the router change the default username, / password, and setup wireless security WEP is OK, but WPA is far superior. That way you can keep out any unwanted visitors for using your wi-fi connection or getting into your router.

The 5100 is sort of a router - but not enough to do what you need. It does need to be put in bridge mode to use with your own router though.
