Question Ethernet not working

Hi Gang

Had my extra computer hooked up wireless in the garage, worked great. Getting too cold out there so brought it inside and removed the wireless card, hooked up a KVM switch, ran a line from my 2wire router/modem to the ethernet connection on my computer MOBO, and thought that should work. Well it isn't, I cannot get it to connect. I have tried several different cables, still no change. I have 4 wired ports on my router, three of them have their lights blinking, the 4th one no light, that is the one that is not working of course. I went into the Bios to see if any thing there looked like it could be the reason for not connecting. Every thing there seemed ok. In the bot up sequence I noticed there was a CD, HD, Floppy, and Ethernet, in that order. This is the Intel MOBO. I also recycled the router a couple of times too.

Any ideas.?

Thanx....Gunny

Hi Again

I was thinking maybe I should get a Ethernet card, and see if that will work. I don't have a Ethernet card in my other computer and it connects just fine, so I assumed this would work too. No dice. As far as I can tell the Ethernet is enabled in the other computer.

Thanx...Gunny

Did you try a different port? Maybe the 4th port is dead.

Hi Mojo

I tried it no workie. I plugged the line in the light never came on, so that tells me there is no connection on the computer end. On that kind of thinking maybe the Ethernet connection on the MOBO is bad. It is a new MOBO, but I guess that can happen to a new one too.

Thanx...Gunny

Are you sure the onboard Ethernet is enabled in the bios, and the drivers are installed?

Hi GLC

As far as I know they are. I used the disc that is the software for that Intel board. I looked at it a little bit ago, and looked at what was on the disc and I did not see anything about Ethernet drivers. I guess I can always down load them again. What should I be looking for in the Bios pertaining to Ethernet.? The only place I seen it was under where you set what you want to start up first, and it had CD, HD, Floppy, Ethernet, in that order.

Thanx...Gunny

Advanced -> Peripheral Configuration -> Onboard LAN

Once that is on, you can use the autorun on the motherboard CD to install the drivers.

Have you checked in Network Connections? Is the connection showing there? Perhaps it needs to be activated.
