Question Sharing Folders on network

When i create a new folder in My Documents it will not let me configure to share on my home network of 3 computers. When you go into properties the box is greyed out and checked to make folder private. I don't know how it got checked. Most of my other folders are ok and checked to share. I cannot make a new folder now to share on my network. With all this greyed out i can not change or don't know where to go to convert it.
i am attaching a file of the properties.

You need to look at the sharing and security settings of the parent folder.

it does not matter if it is parent folder that is sharing on network already or a new folder, i get the same greyed out properties. it seems like this just started a few weeks ago and i can not think of any changes i made to cause this.

Do a system restore back to a date when it was still working right.

Are you getting the same behavior with a new folder you create elsewhere? Does the shared folder have to be in My Documents?

There's a setting to make your documents private in the user account settings. I'm 99% sure that this is causing your problem. I know I've seen this many times when creating a new user, but I can't seem to get to the setting for an already existing account.

hey, thanks Panama Red. Your posted link above undoprivate did the trick. Some of my older folders did not clear the checked private box but i can now create a new folder and the most recent ones that were checked are now o.k. I followed the instructions to go to safe mode and rightclicked on My Documents then properties and configured in the security tab. Thanks
again.
