Question Connection problem

Hi Gang

I know I have posted on here regarding this problem. But I am starting a new one here. Is there any way, program, what ever that will tell me more definite as to why my DSL drops.

I cannot at the present time tell whether it is yahoo, AT&T, phone lines, what ever that is causing the drop. I fell I am not alone with this problem from the # of complaints I read about this same situation. Surly in this day and age with all the electronic gadgets we have, testing equipment, etc that a person that really wants to find out cannot do this with a little more assuredness exactly where the problem is.

Example here, I had AT&T out a couple of weeks ago, my phone was really noisy, static, etc. I told them to along with the noise that my DSL was being dropped every time I turn around. he said as I suspected the noise and DSL don't get along very well, ok so he said they found the problem a bad piece of line some where else, not at my house and that seemed to fix it. For a couple of weeks it was rock solid the speeds were up and every one was happy, maybe it dropped one time. Ok now we are back to it being dropped every time I turn around, just this morning probably 5 or 6 times.

So any one with any suggestions, ideas, what ever let me know your thoughts on this.

Thanx and take care.......Gunny

If the line is noisy again, call AT&T again. They have the equipment to test your line from the switch all the way to your modem if you can get past the morons in India to 2nd level support.

If your phone lines are that shaky, I'd consider switching to cable Internet service. I'm not too pleased with AT&T here right now, but the local cable company is worse.

Hi Glc

Well you are back in old Mo, and the cable out here, (Comcast) is no better. They have a terrible reputation out here. I am afraid I would be jumping out of the pot into the frying pan if I switched. I had them for my TV a long time ago, and I understand they are no better at what they are doing to day then they was back then. And then it was terrible. I have had several of my friends stop their service because it was so bad.

The noise dont seem to be that bad now and it is still dropping again way too often. That is why I was looking for some way to really pin it down a little better. Thats funny how it is good for a bit then goes stinko. As soon as I have a AT&T truck in my neighborhood, I look for trouble to start happening. So many times this is what has happened, they show up repairing some thing else and my DSL goes down the toilet. I catch them some times before they get away and tell them, hey I think some thing you did screwed up my DSL, most often they have to have the tech boys to come back and repair.

Thanx...Gunny

Hi GLC

I meant to post back with this,,on my last problem with the second computer not being able to connect. Found out what it was, mind you I tried several cables to eliminate that end of it. Well I think I tried a couple different cables between the modem and the computer Ethernet connection, well the 3rd one did the trick. I have a friend of mine that makes up these cables for people and they usually are very good, and he checks them with a electronic tester before he gives them away. Well he must not have checked these very good one day. I told him to lay off the sauce when he making them, from now on. :-)

Thanx....Gunny

seems like you have to be in an overpopulated area to get good service...
on Long Island cablevision internet service is great, no major issues, fast & reliable...

Cablevision uses Optimum Online, which has always been the best of any of them out there.

GLC if you get the same service and reception you get from Comcast out here, out where you are you might take back your wish. The old saying what you wish for just might come true and trust me you don't want that wish to come true. It is terrible out here, poor reception, don't get all the channels, very poor service, people don't know what they are doing and it goes on and on. I have heard of people going to expensive ordeals just to get away from Comcast. Their ads on TV are a joke out here, I don't care if it was free I still would not get it.

Blaster-- I guess it just depends on where you live. Just like any Co/store you buy from. You can go into a Wally World store here and hate the service, go to another one across town and love it. I guess it comes down to the people you are working with. Some Comcast/cable co's give pride in their product and service, some don't. Out here Comcast talks a great service but putting their words into action leaves some thing to be desired.

Thanx...Gunny

thats exactly what i meant, service gets better when there is more at 'stake' for the company.
cable's service has to be good here on long island otherwise they lose millions of customers, not just a handful from a small town.

its almost $50/ month here for the internet service...
package deal is $155/month for tv, phone, internet ( middle of the road package, not top tier stuff)
