XP not grabbing an IP off ISP
First of all, I am on a college campus apartment, but it is served via a private ISP (not run by the university). I am not behind a router or anything, just a socket behind a wall that I assume connects to a hub somewhere in the building downstairs.
Anyway, my laptop is able to grab an IP off the network while my desktop isn't. Desktop has a new motherboard, fresh XP SP3 install, a second PCI NIC, and I've tried multiple cables. I've also tried manually configuring the TCP/IP settings to no avail. It does grab a 169.254.x.x IP. Here is the ipconfig /all off my laptop: Code:
Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection:

Nevermind, I was able to run it with a static IP.

Your NIC is up and running in Device Manager, no X, or "Yellow" ! showing for your NIC
Have you tried a ipconfig /release ipconfig /renew on the desktop, restarting the desktop.
