IP Address Changed Automatically?
I currently have AT&T DSL service with a Speedstream 4100B modem and a Linksys WRT54G V2.2 wireless router setup. Yesterday I came to use my desktop to surf and when I opened my browser there was a message from AT&T pointing to my password not being the same as the modem's. When I calleed AT&T support we notice the IP address had been changed to 99.142.222.121. We reset the modem and everything was back to normal. The technitian mentioned it could have been automatically done by another program. I can't think of any program I have that could have done this. Any ideas of how this happened? Possibilities that someone might have tried doing this or precautions I can take?
Thanks. |

That's a trimode modem. Which mode are you using? Default, PPPoE on modem, or bridged? Bridged is the recommended mode when you use a 3rd party router, and the router needs to be configured for PPPoE. Resetting it will put it back to defaults, which stores your PPPoE login in the modem and it issues you a 192.168.1.x IP, which will conflict with a Linksys router.
