Direct pc to pc using usb to file xfer?
Would like to direct connect two pc's that have xp3 os via usb type "A" cable.
Is such possible using with the Dollar Tree usb type "A" cable that sells for a buck? ![]() Or does one have to shell out $30? ![]() Some examples http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...8015&CatId=445 http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...2684&CatId=445 In "New Connection Wizard" it gives 3 methods, serial, parallel, or infrared yet states nothing about usb. Is usb considered serial for those choices? Thanks much Last edited by KCD; 12-21-2008 at 01:41 PM. Reason: to include Network Connection Type question |

Are the 2 computers connected to a router? If so, use that method, it's better than USB.

No router, just a direct connect type "A" cable, trying to do this on the cheap.

If both computers have Ethernet adapters, just get a crossover type network cable.
Example: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16812117133 |

Thanks for that cable id.
While both pc's have ethernet ports, & it is a faster way, are you saying not to go the usb route? Would like to use the usb cable if possible as I just need to get small files. Am I correct that the xfer would be done in "Network Connections" under the "New Connection Wizard"? Thanks much |

Yes, Ethernet is always preferable to USB.
However, if all you want are small files, why not just "sneakernet" them with a USB flash key? This is easier than setting up any kind of network or file transfer capability. |
