I've been reading about wireless routers, trying to determine the best avenue for use with my SONY laptop running Vista business; has WLAN 802.11 a/b/g/n. I use a wireless USB modem to connect to the internet. I would like to connect wirelessly to my HP8180 printer and a SONY PSP (and whatever else might come along). It seems the more I read, the more confused I get about this.
I'm looking for a router that will provide a good connection without limiting myself down the road and would appreciate your suggestions. |

The usual recommendation around here is the Linksys WRT54GL:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16833124190 The Linksys routers are usually very solid. I personally use an Airlink101 AR670W that I got for $15 on Black Friday. http://www.airlink101.com/products/ar670w.php I usually tend to pick up cheap routers and just replace them every year or couple of years rather than spend the money on a "good" router, though before the Airlink I did use a Linksys WRT54GS for about a year.

I use a WRT54G. As I understand the security is better on the WRT54G but I don't have a need for that where I live.

Linksys does OK.
I just replaced my 7 year old Netmate with one. A wired model but I have no complaints.

I was in a Wal-Mart today and they have the Linksys WRT54GS on special for $40. I picked up one for a spare.

Linksys will do just fine. I haven't had much experience with any draft n equipment yet so I'm not sure if it's something you will really benefit from.
I use DD-WRT firmware on my routers and I won't use anything else.

Thanks very much to everyone for your suggestions. I truly appreciate it. Guess I'll go with Linksys.

You cannot connect a USB modem to a router. You must have Ethernet capability.
