router for a firewall..

To save resources on my computer, and I guess to be a little more less paranoid about hackers, can I connect my DSL to a router, and my PC into a port of the router, use the for a firewall, and still be able to use my phoneline network?

If so, what would I have to do, configuration wize, to get this working?

Zone Alarm is plenty adequate and it's free. Even ZA Pro is cheaper than a router. I foresee a problem stacking 2 NAT devices together like that (router and whatever software you are using to share the DSL).

Thumbs down ZA Pro

I got hacked whilst ZA Pro was running!!! Some swine installed Placebo in a directory being used for FTP. Fortunately the directory was locked down. We were testing some software that allows clients to drop files in a window at their end and drops into a specified folder.

I now use Personal Tiny Firewall. Much more flexible & FREE.

Get it from www.tinysoftware.com

I have a Linsys DSL/Cable router and AtGuard firewall, and so far it's very effective. I used to get probed at least 10 times a night - now nothing gets through to my firewall - Linky takes care of it all.
Linksys supports DSL no problem - just sometimes it can be a hussle to make FTP server and things like that to work through the router.
did u say u have a phoneline network? If so there's even a router model that allows u to set this up.

SYGATE Firewall is free and does not have the hacking problems that have happened with Zone Alarm because it is not in use as much.

http://www.sygate.com/

They also have a really good security scan under the Support Menu on their site
