I built this computer myself.
As for Windows, it's an OEM from Newegg.com. However the Microsoft representative stated that it's product number didn't match the version of XP it was. |

How long ago did you buy the Windows CD and have you taken up this issue with NewEgg?

Do you need the Task Manager? If you do then put your registry back to what it was.
Maybe you can do a backup of your current registry while your at it. How long ago did the problem with the Task Manager start? |

I'm not sure like about 2 weeks ago? But I have done a considerable amount of stuff that I need for my PC since then that needs to be saved. Yeah I'll just create a back up. And yes I NEED task manager.

If it's only two weeks why not try a system restore back about three weeks?

Thats annoying, try the restore and let me know how you get on.
edit...Windows system restore that is, not a full restore using the install CD....

Every time I do a restore it says "Can't perform restore due to no changes being made" :/
I don't know what's wrong. I do remember in my virus scanner I have it dedicated a worm in my system32 that I can't get rid of, but I didn't think that it could cause this. Could that be the case? If so what virus program should I use? |

You need a LOT more than Comodo.
Download and install Malwarebytes, update it, then run it in SAFE MODE. |

This is looking more and more like a reinstall.

Try a system restore in safe mode.

Sorry about the system restore in safe mode already being tried, my bad. I know you tired line 51 of Kelly's but as a last resort before a reinstall/repair you could try line 113 and select the "repair" function for task manager and see what happens but I'm 99.99% sure you still have malware.

I suggest to replace the task manager function with process explorer. It has more functionality than task manager and you can also see the dll's handle of the running program and kill the suspicious running program

I solved the problem. I installed a program earlier called "Registry Editor" which is a program that scans virus's and the likes in the system's registry. It seems that it put a file in their that disrupted the Task Manager process. I can now press CTL, ALT, and Delete and receive the Task Manager.
However I have another slight problem. I was originally going to reinstall Windows but right when I was going to I decided not to. Now my PC has two OS's to choose from when to boot: Windows XP and Windows Setup (and it always automatically goes to Windows Setup). So how do I delete Windows Setup from the boot menu? |

Go to Control Panel > System > Advanced 'tab'
Under Startup and Recovery, click the 'Settings' button The Startup and Recovery window will pop up and at the top should be a pull down window to select the default operating system. |
