My wireless network
I have a linksys 160n router, which sits between the living room and kitchen, on one end of the house. There it can reach upstairs to the study, but not so much to the other end of the house in my room (with one exception). The router runs in G-only mode, and is connected to a desktop via ethernet. My father's laptop has a G card in it, my desktop in my room has a wireless G Belkin adapter which connects via usb, and my Macbook has a N airport card built in.
Here's the exception. Even though I get literally two bars on my desktop's G adapter, even with it sitting on top of my monitor (precariously I might add), my Macbook gets full bars anywhere in this part of the house. It literally will never drop from a full signal...ever, and the internet is quick on it too. This sounds like a crappy usb wireless G adapter on my computer I know, but I just want to make sure. Should I purchase another adapter, or modify my router for an external antenna? I'm just not sure if the Macbook is giving an accurate network strength reading, or is the N card inside really just that good at picking up the signal?

What do you suggest as a replacement?

A matching Linksys PCI "N" card. Looks like Newegg has a combo deal with a high gain antenna:
