Comp laggy with 2 NICs

Ive got 2 NICs in my comp. One for Cable modem and one for LAN. Ever since I installed 2nd NIC,for LAN,my connection to internet lags like hell. Is there anything that I need to disable on 2nd NIC?

How many protocols are loaded on both NICs?
You only need one loaded on the DSL NIC-tcp/ip.
Also, if you aren't using other protocols and services, you'd see improvement getting rid of them. Also, which connection is the default connection to be checked? Netbeui is good between up to 10 PC's, on a small network, but it'sa broadcast protocol, and it will slow down a larger network.

Hi mellow,
Ive only got 2 comps LANed out for games and file sharing. I dont share internet connection on other comp. There were 2 problems that I was having. When I would play certain games (especially Diablo 2) my comp would freeze every 5 minutes or so and the freeze would last about 30 seconds and my internet connection would also do the same. The other problem that I was having was that it takes an abnormally long period of time before my AIM can connect of I can surf the internet when I first start up my comp. Someone told me to enable internet connection sharing on comp with 2 NICs (even though im not actually doing so) and that would help out. It helped out with the freezing problem but comp still takes long amount of time on boot-up to connect to internet. Here are the protocols that I have installed.
Internet connection sharing.
NetBEUI
TCP/IP
NDISWAN.
What is NDISWAN I didnt install this protocol and it doesnt look familiar.
If you can think of anything that I can do to help with my problem please write back. I didnt think there could be so much crap to hooking to comps up for gaming

Red face

The NDISWAN may be related to the cable modem.
Most other installs of networking don't use it. If you need to log into the cable service, that's probably why it's there. You don't need it attached to local LAN nics, only the nic going to cable modem.
if you are playing over a LAN, and tcp/ip is the protocol, you can even get rid of NetBEUI. NetBEUI is a broadcast protocol, not a routed protocol, and packet delivery is not guaranteed. that's what makes TCP/IP so good for networking. And everything your nic puts on the network, it does in all loaded protocols for that connection.
