Nic's and Computer Conflicts

Hi All

This is the situation. I am connected to the internet with an Athlon System running Win XP. I have two NIC that I have been trying to use. One is a Netgear FA311, which connects me to the internet, but only after turning the power on and off 10 times. The second is a Realteck RTL8139C which doesnt conflict with my system (alowing it to work perfectly), but wont allow me to connect to the internet (I have a cable connection where I am automatically assigned an IP)

Right now the only two cards I have installed are the Video and the NIC, so there shouldn't be any conflict between IRQ's, and I've tried switching the NIC to various PCI slots with no luck. ANy suggestions?

Thanks

Check for conflicts in control panel/system/device manager.
Also try clicking on your particular device and click on the driver and resource tabs. In the driver page view the driver files make sure they are loaded if not click on update driver and point it to the location of the driver. Also click on the resource tab and check for any resource conflicts.

Are you using a known good cable? cat 5 goes bad like anything else.
I'd check it if possible, or just get a known good replacement cable first. (cheapest solution)
Also check if updated drivers are available for the 311tx and the realtech)

The netgear may be having issues, but it has a lifetime warranty. You can get a replacement card relatively easily. (cheap-postage)
The other card (realtech) I have no idea about. I generally go Netgear or Intel nics (which are usually built into the board)

Gotta agree there the cable can break real easily especially inside the male connecter jack.
