FTP was working, now it is not

In a previous post. Which can be found at portforward.com forum - FTP server – “timing out” – need alternate port to

So, after many months of things going along working fine I appear to have run into a port availability issue.

There has been one change to my set-up from my last post. The machine running WinIP 4 died has been replaced. I installed WinIP 4 on the new machine and configured it the way I thought it had been before.

I am still in the double checking my set-up mode right now however, I wanted to ask the forum if they had any suggestions when things just appear to stop working.

Thank you.

Are you using FTP locally or remotely?

Does using FTP://127.0.0.1 work?
If you aren't using the normal FTP port (21) - use FTP://127.0.0.1:PORT (example: 127.0.0.1:5000 for port 5000)

Remotely:
Since the ports ARE forwarded, assuming you did disable DHCP, did you reconfigure the IP address on the new system?

Remotely and Locally:
Do you have any firewalls or anti-virus installed? I've had a case where Norton blocked the FTP port on a customer's computer, removed the whole fail-programmed AV/FW and it started working again.

It turns out that when the router is reset that it goes to the default setting of enabling UPnP. Once I disabled that setting I was back up and running. So, another lesson learned.

Thanks.
