Apartment Wireless

Hi all. I have an issue with my home network in my apartment.

First, there are multiple wireless networks situated around me. Among them, there is at least 1 network that consistently knocks out my WRT54GL. It isn't constant, but it's enough that laptops and smartphones have difficulty accessing internet.

Second problem is that I wish to connect multiple game consoles and TV's to the internet. I cannot feasibly run a wired connection to the entertainment center, and adding multiple wireless adapters seems silly.

My uninformed solution: I was going to replace my WRT54GL to a dual band N router. As well, I was going to get a second wireless router to place at the entertainment center to pick up the signal. from here, I can use regular cables to connect to all my devices.

Is this ill-informed? Is there a better solution that I'm missing? Any product recommendations? Thank you for your help in advance.

Get another router, then install DD-WRT firmware on the WRT54GL and run it as a wireless bridge. Being that the WRT54GL is only a "G" router, I don't know how having a "N" router will really help you. I'd probably get another WRT54GL and put DD-WRT on it too and find the best channel to avoid interference, and crank up the power to somewhere between 70 and 100 mw.

Thank you for the reply glc. Would this solution help alleviate the dropped signals I seem to experience? Would this set-up also be ideal for streaming HD movies? Thank you, as always!
