Comcast Modem&Router

Probably going to sign up for Comcast's Economy internet service(3MBs).
In searching the forum it seems the Motorola SB6120 is the recommended modem and is on Comcast's compatibility list. Their list shows very few routers. Is the Linksys WRT54GL a good choice and compatible?

You can use ANY router with the SB6120. The WRT54GL is an old, but excellent router.

These are the routers listed on Comcast's site as approved:
Netgear WGR614v8
" WNR1000
" WNR3500
Linksys WRT310N

Which would be the best choice or does it matter if I stray from the list?

It doesn't matter - *ANY* router will work with that modem on Comcast.

WRT54GL unless you need "N" speeds.

With the economy 3MBs service I'm considering would N speed be recommended? If yes, then what router would you recommend?

Newegg has the WRT310N on sale for 50 bucks - GRAB IT. That's a $130 router.
