trouble with vista laptop & wireless connection

at a relative's house - he's having issues with his vista laptop and connecting to his wireless router
however other laptops and wireless devices connect to the router without incident
prior to recently his vista laptop connected fine. it is hp presario c700 with a stock broadcom wireless card.
the only thing we can determine that was changed on his laptop recently - he installed microsoft security essentials

any suggestions are greatly appreciated - happy holidays!

My router/computers have the same problem and occurs frequently. I really don't know why, but I blame the router. I do one or more of these 3 things to fix mine. (I'm doing it right now, he, he, and the first option worked.)

1. Unplug the router for about 10 minutes.
2. Reboot the computer.
3. Right click the wireless signal bars and click troubleshoot. It usually says that it is resetting the wireless adapter.

You might try to disable or uninstall microsoft security essentials to see if that helps.

I would really like to hear the real answer. Hope this works for you.
