Router Recommendation

a friend is going to get this Asus laptop
ASUS U56E RBL5 Laptop Computer With 156 LED Backlit Screen 2nd Gen Intel Core i3 2310M Processor With Hyper Threading Technology by Office Depot

just wondering what routher i should recommend. the router will be in a bedroom and he will be using the laptop in his garage mostly, so opposite ends of the house. Probably 75' with walls.

glc,
These routers are new to me. Are they capable of handling one wired pc , wireless printer, and wireless laptops? Do they work with a Comcast Xfinity system?
TIA

Wireless printers don't actually connect to the router--they are their own access points.

Thanks Force Flow. I may be getting Comcast in a week or so and I'll need a router for all my computers. I assume then that the router GLC recommended will work fine or is it overkill?

Thanks again
Carl

It's an excellent router for the price. The only issue might be if Comcast gives you a modem/router combo instead of just a modem. They MIGHT give you one that's already wireless capable - can you find out what equipment they provide for the package you are getting?

glc,
I will find out all the details next Saturday. I'm confused in the regard that the salesman says I need two modems or signal boxes, one for each tv, a DVR, and if I want to connect more then one computer, a router. Maybe I'm misunderstanding him. Anyway, that's why I was asking about the router you suggested.
I'll find out more this coming weekend.
Thank you for the info.

Carl

If he is telling you that you NEED a router, that one would be a good choice.

Carl, if you can and want, hardwire your main PC versus wireless. AT&T set my pc in back room up for wireless. It worked but slow. I crawled under house and wired both ends to a jack with CAT 5 and doubled my speed.

Hey Sarge,
My pc is wired direct now with ATT u/verse and I'm going to want it that way with Comcast if I change.
I do all my financials on this pc and don't want the info floating around in the air, even with the secured network.
That's just me.

These are only $60 and have a great ranking on the router charts at smallnetbuilder

Comcast is installed and they gave me a wireless 4 port router. My main pc is wired and all others have wireless access. So far so good.
