Blocked access to shared homegroup folder

Hello all, come across a somewhat annoying problem concerning homegroup sharing.
I have 3 machines (PC, Laptop and HTPC) on a homegroup, all running W7 64-bit. I want to share some folders across the homegroup, but one particular folder (My Pictures folder) is refusing to share from the HTPC to the other machines, giving me the "You don't have permission.." message I have gone though all the step by step guides to enable sharing; share with Homegroup, advanced network discovery etc etc, but it still won't budge. Any other folder I've set up for sharing from this machine works perfectly (My Videos for example). The HTPC is connected via ethernet to the router, the other machines are on wireless connections to the same router, a Swisscom Motorola router.
Any ideas where to proceed?
Many thanks.

Yes I have; right-clicked on the folder and selected "Share with Homegroup (read/write)".
Unless you're referring to something different.

Does this message pop up in a new box when you try to open the folder?

If it does, just click continue and you should see the navigation bar start to turn green starting on the left hand side. As soon as it travels the full width of the navigation bar you should have access.

Yes it does and I let the green bar fill up, but nothing changed. Having said that, it was awfully slow and maybe my patience got the better of me. I'll give it another bash tonight.
Thanks.

It has to go right to the end of the box with the 'X' in it on the far right. If memory serves me correct, I have only had one where it didn't finish but I think that harddrive was a faulty one I was trying to recover the files off for a customer.

OK, didn't work. I let the green bar fill as far as it could (left it for about 15 mins) and it only got halfway across the "X".
I don't know what changed, but now I can't view any shared subfolders on the HTPC. I set the HTPC username folder to share with the homegroup, I can see all the subfolders, but can't open any of them, getting the "You don't have permission..."dialog box again.
Doing it the other way round, sharing from the Laptop to the Homegroup, works like a charm.

What antivirus and security software are you using? 3rd party firewalls can be problematic.

It looks like vacanthead is not the only person AVG is causing problems for.

OK; I'll try that tonight. I still don't understand how I can access folders, but not the subfolders. If AVG was causing the problems, wouldn't it be the same for all file hierarchies?
I have to clarify though, these exact access problems I have encountered via the Network, not the Homegroup interface. From the homegroup, I can see all my shared folders, but I can't open them. I get no error pop-up, they just don't open. I even tried disbanding the Homegroup and creating another, but to no avail.
I do have one possible solution; I renamed the Admin account on the HTPC, so it would be the same as my login on the other machines. However I logged in to the HTPC from the laptop using the old (yet still functional) Admin username. Could this be the problem? If so, how do I reset the login over the network (ie using the shared login name)?

Just had a thought, can I not simply set Password-enabled sharing to "on" in the Homegroup settings?

No, but I turned on password-enabled sharing in the HTPC Homegroup options and hey presto, I can open all the shared folders. No idea if it was the trick, but I'm happy it's working now. I didn't even have to retype my credentials to access the shared machine.

Thats good news, I am glad you got it working.
I am just setting up a file share server using Windows server 2003. I have four or five external harddrives and I decided it's about time I had all my music, photo's and apps in order in one place.
