continuous windows update (loop)

recieved auto update from ms specifically KB2572073,KB2518864,KB2633880 all refer to security for .net framework 2.0... problem is they installed ok but the yellow shield remains in notification/clock area and won't go away. keeps telling me to install same 3 updates over & over. i ccleaned, restarted but no joy... driving me nuts (albeit didn't have to drive far to nutsville as i'm nearby the nutty village as is)... other symptoms are screen lag similar to a HDTV with low cyclic rate... all seemed to begin sometime after ridding my system of avira and installing MSE... not sure if related but timing is there... any suggestions? remedies? BTW... all 3 updates came in same time as a group of 3... all 3 were successfully installed 5 times according to history

Have you not been prompted to update to .net.framework 4.0 yet?

I assume XP based on your signature. Are you getting any error codes? Sounds like you updated something out of sequence.

I seem to recall running across that one time recently and I used MS's Mr. Fixit to correct it. If I recall correctly, I went to the link below
Microsoft Fix it Solution Center: troubleshooting software issues

select the top solutions, type in search "windows update," and selected the fix windows update not working.

also, select the windows button and do the same search, you will see a manual fix solution for a couple of different error codes.

signiture is correct & up to date not recieving any error codes

but all 3 of those updates installed sucessfully several times... wouldn't one or more of them fail if out of order

How do I disable balloon tips in the notification area in Windows XP or Vista?

Notifications

How To Disable Automatic Update Tray Notification in Windows XP? - InspYreIT

BTW, couldn't google it at first cause didn't know it was considered notification area, i always referred to it as the clock area so nothing came up on searches

This problem seems to be a bug with these particular updates. I received a call from one of my customers today with the same exact problem. I checked my own XP PC and it had the same problem too!

Solution is to restart the computer, then manually run the windows updates and choose CUSTOM instead of EXPRESS. Custom will report No Updates available and you exit out. The gold shield then stops showing in the sysyem tray. This solution worked for both me and my customer's PCs.
