mse status potentially unprotected
 

had issue with mse started 2 days ago the icon turned yellow warning unprotected due to overdue for scanning. well funny thing was i just did full scan night before. anyway, i rescanned, then did usual biz online, performed my usuall ritual of ccleaning just prior to shutdown. next morning that damm warning was back. hmmm. searched on live search found this...

read thru till end where the mod there replied...
seems new version of ccleaner auto wipes mse logs
followed his advice. open ccleaner click on apps uncheck all ms under windows. rescan. restart. yeah mse stays green.

I had this issue with a machine a few weeks back. I didn't make the changes to ccleaner but it took two reinstalls for MSE to start behaving itself. At the time I put it down to a bad download. I'll watchout for that issue in the future.

btw, the referenced link was old (august 2011) so i will guess ccleaner needs to reconfig thier software cause this just happened to me as i only recently switched to mse... so i for one will check ccleaner configs each time it updates. surprised ms hasn't spoke to piriform about it.

its been a week since i posted this and i've used ccleaner once per day as a test and so far no more issues with mse. seems to be the fix. will let you know if anything changes.

I still haven't had a problem with this issue, but I am going to leave it stickied for the foreseeable future.

I actually just ran into it yesterday on a laptop that I cleaned some time ago.

J. it crossed my mind that you might be able to circumvent this issue by installing MSE after installing ccleaner.

Yeah I was thinking that to but I do not remember the sequence with this laptop. I can say that I normally install ccleaner last and do a final cleanup. Have you confirmed that as a solution and if so, do you still uncheck those boxes?

With a fresh install I usually go to file hippo and download ccleaner, malwarebytes and foxit whilst Windows is doing it's usual updates. I then install all three and carryout the prerequisite restart. Then I go to Microsoft and download/install MSE, then follow that up with a ccleaner "Spring Clean".


I cannot confirm it as a solution, because apart from the one occasion I haven't had to deal with this issue and therefore I do not uncheck the boxes relating to MSE.

today as in a few hours ago i ran a test goes like this...

i rechecked all boxes under windows applications on ccleaner...
then i ran ccleaner, which erased the logs for mse...
approximately 30-45 minutes afterwards mse went CAUTION have not performed a scan recently... not true (last scan was 6/23 @ 3:44pm FULL scan)...

so now i will uncheck those boxes again so that ccleaner won't erase the logs... then i will have to do a full scan again to reset mse...

what a pain... mse dashboard says last scan with that recent date so why would it rely/use the logs as a guide to set off the notification?
microsoft should 'piont' the notification at the "last scan performed" area of its dashboard/interface(whatever its called) rather than the logs themselves...

everything was fine and working properly until this test...
and all apps/programs have been updated daily during this time period, so i have all the 'latest' updates for all...

There's only 2 boxes you need to uncheck - MS Anti Malware and MS Management Console.

yes i should have been more specific those are the two items to uncheck.

so i performed a full scan, unchecked the two items mentioned above and all is good/green. therefore this test worked as expected.
the only thing is have to keep all those logs indefinately or do this 'test' once in a while, unless mse only 'keeps' a finite amount of most recent logs.

i did send a message to ms & piriform when this first happened to me.
piriform replied with the standard "thank you for your suggestion. we will pass it along to the appropiate support team"
ms didn't reply as of yet.
