Hi,
After I went through the Control panel add/ remove programs to Uninstall this program, somewhere close to the end of the process it told me that it was unable to Uninstall! I have searched for help to remove the software manually, but can't seem to find success in doing this. Would someone know of an easier way to get rid of this MSE? Thanks

Booting into Safe Mode and then uninstalling might be worth a try.

As I understand it, some malware attempts to disable the AV program so it has to be able to protect itself against being tampered with. Maybe that's what makes it difficult to remove completely and this is the way it should be. If a user can do it easily then maybe malware stands a chance too.

Check taskmanager if you see a related process and close it
Uninstall Reinstall If fail use the safe mode suggestion. Finally uninstall In extreme cases get a competive progran that will unistall the MSE. I only know the general rules. Last edited by bob; 06-17-2012 at 03:19 AM. |

Any particular reason why you want to stop using MSE?

I have tried to uninstall the MSE; my PC doesn't show it anywhere in the add/remove programs; Registry; searching the HDD finds nothing either. I have used the links indicated above to try and manually remove it as well; using Revo only works if you are able to see the program, something I am unable to see; using Fixit doesn't work either.
Perhaps there is something running on my PC in the background? I tried to reinstall MSE, won't let me tells me that there is another copy on my PC remove it first; tried to install AVG won't let me as it tells me I have to remove MSE first. Maybe this is why my PC takes forever to shutdown/restart and at times seems like something is running in the background (HD makes noise for no reason) Maybe its time for me to format my HD! |

Have you tried a system restore back to a date when things were right?

That is why when you reformat, you only copy back your DATA FILES and reinstall all your software. For a tech to do that, it's gonna be a lot more than 60 bucks.

I use CCleaner to uninstall, then use the Registry cleaner part of it to finish up.

Thanks Guys for your help. As I haven't been able to miraculously solve this, I plan to backup the data files to my new 500GB external HD, and install WIN 7.
As I have never backed up data before, would you please recommend software that will do this as easily and as quickly as possible? Thanks again. |

I just plug in my external drive, right click the files,"send To" and select the drive and away you go. You can also drag & drop.

Thanks I understand this send capability of windows. What I am actually looking for is s/w that will find all files of a specified type and copy them with their folders to the external drive.
Does something like this exist? |

Not advisable. You are best off going through everything manually.
