(Potentially) stupid question about cell-service booster & network security...
Ok, so at our office we recently installed boosters to improve cell-phone/smart-phone reception inside the building. Our computer network is all hard-wired through a router, but cell service had been a problem because of the building's construction. These boosters are connected into the office network for internet access, through our server, as I understand it. We have discovered the boosters work much better than we had hoped, and it's possible to talk on a cell/smart phone (while connected through the booster) well away from the building.
So here's the possibly stupid question: Is this a security concern? If someone wanted to, could they access our network through the boosters? Thanks, jh |

Cell phone signal boosters are completely different from wireless computer networks.
Cell phone signals are somewhere in the 500-800mhz signal range. Wireless network signals are in the 2.4ghz range. So no, it's not a security concern as far as your internal network goes. However, if a mobile device has access to your wireless network, you still have to protect against that--with or without the cell signal booster.
