Networking multiple routers
We changed our Internet service a couple of months ago and they installed a new wireless modem/router. I am wondering if it possible to connect my smart TV, Blu ray player, and DVR to the old wireless router (family room), and run one ethernet cable to the new modem/router(bedroom), so they can access the Internet, or I am I asking for problems. I have a computer in the living room that could also use a wireless access point that offers a stronger signal.

Use a switcher instead of using a second router. Switchers boost the signal plus Ethernet will officially run 100 meters without the need to boost the signal.

You can do that. Just don't use it for routing (WAN port doesn't connect). Would be a good idea to turn off DHCP and any other goodies that can be furnished by the new one and probably will require a change to fixed IP address outside the IP pool furnished by the new one.
You will end up with the equivalent of a switch and WAP. |

I just used my old Linksys router to connect my bedroom TV to the network wirelessly to use Netflix. I downloaded DD-WRT firmware and configured it and it works great. HTH

What are the brands and models of the old wireless router and the new modem/router?

The new modem,router is a 2wire 3600HGV, and the old router id a D-Link DIR-601.

You will need to "neuter" The D-Link. Change its internal IP address to one in the 2Wire's subnet (but outside its DHCP scope), and turn off the D-Link's internal DHCP server. Connect the cable from the 2Wire to one of the D-Link's switch ports, not the Internet/WAN port.

Sounds like a lot of work. I think I will look for a switcher. Thanks for your help.
