Malwarebytes, MSE, and Windows Security Center

I updated Malwarebytes (free version) yesterday, a new version was available which required a re-start to complete installation. I don't remember having to re-start with previous Malwarebytes updates, and the desktop short-cut icon is now blue instead of red.

After re-starting, Windows Security Center warns me and says that no Anti-virus software was detected. But I'm using MSE, and MSE says it is on, updated, and working. Strange, any ideas what's going on? Everything seems to be OK except for this security center warning.

Which OS are you using?

XP has a known history of not detecting MSE properly.

XP SP3

I was just concerned because Windows had always detected MSE before, until this last update of Malwarebytes, I'm not sure why that would have affected it.

I would think that if MSE says: Security Essentials is monitoring your PC and helping to protect it., then it is. I would trust MSE over what Malwarebytes is telling you, which to me sounds like a false negative.

If you want a second opinion then run Belarc Advisor which tells you the status of your anti-malware protection.

David, it's not Malwarebytes telling him this, it's Windows Security Center.

That's the new icon for malwarebytes and a restart after program update is normal.
