PC locked-due to illegal downloads....

Ha Ha, I had too much fun with my son when he showed me this screen on his computer. It's red white and blue and almost looks official.

It says your IP address has been identified as making illegal downloads of copywrited material and you must pay a $400.00 fine to the govt. to unlock your pc.

I wonder how many people get caught with that one.

It was really easy to remove; although I knew what it was immediately. We just shutdown and ran MSE in safe mode.

If you get one, dont forget to raz the owner just a bit.

Just thought I'd share...

I had experience with a FB friend having one held for ransom by the FBI. I don't know whether it said it, or he presumed it by what he was doing, but he thought it was because of preaching.

Those are the ones I call the "FBI ALERT" malware.
They look so real that many of my customers tell me that
they actually called the FBI to find out what they did wrong.
It really scares the heck out of people.

yep, and it's really fun to play along. Of course I guess you wouldn't want to do that to customer.

I saw a screen shot of this recently, and I admit it got me for a second, then it hit me...

I wonder how many people get those and payout the money? I feel bad for those people.

I am picking up a netbook tomorrow that has been hit with the UK Police version of this for the second time in three months. I know this young girl quite well, she is the daughter of a good friend and I know she is not the type to visit dodgy websites. It was a bit of a stubborn pig to remove last time so hopefull MSE and Malwarebytes are abreast of it and it won't be as bad this time around.

I used Emsisoft to remove it

What I said in a previous thread: Hi, I was cleaning off the FBI Moneypak Ransomware Virus from a friends PC, I slaved his drive to my PC, Malwarebytes, Superantispyware and MSE found lots of things. I thought I had got it. Put the drive back in his PC, still got that FBI screen, even in safe mode it came up. I guess it comes in different flavors and I had the advanced one. I ran across a website that recommended Emsisoft, I checked here no one knew much about it. So I gave it a try, installed it on my PC, slaved his drive again ran the scan and it got rid of the Ransomeware. By the way it found a few things on my PC Malwarebytes, Superantispyware and MSE did not. A lot of people said you had to pay for it, not true, it runs just like Malwarebytes, you get the free version (offered in real small letters ha, ha) which just like Malwarebytes let you update it, scan with it and delete the bugs. Have added it to my virus arsenal. Free Emsisoft Anti-Malware Download - Antivirus, Antimalware, Antispyware when you run the downloaded file it will then give you the choice of entering a key code, 30 day free trial, or the free version (look closely).

Panama Red recommended Emsisoft to me. I really like the program and I have used it a few times, unfortunately I can't remember what cleared up the infection on the netbook I have to do again tomorrow.
