Hi rjfvillarosa, it's my daughter laptop, a Dell running Windows 7 that has been getting really slow lately. But now I can't even login under my name. I cannot also connect to the Internet, and this via wireless or hard-wired connection. I have install Avast (free version) but don't seem to be able to run a full scan, the PC just kills Windows. I have also run a scan via MalwareBytes, installs in safe mode via an USB key, and only came back with 1 infected file: pupofferbundler.st.

I am currently running an ally restore point to see if I can at lat run th laptop in normal view.

Any input would be great, bear in mind that I am not able to connrect to the internet with the laptop but I have a desktop and a couple of USB kes if I need to download some softwares. In advance thanks for your help

An excellent piece of software that Panama Red introduced me to a little while back is a great standalone scanner.
Emsisoft Free Emergency Kit: portable malware scanner | Free removal of Viruses, Bots, Spyware, Keyloggers and Trojans
Download this tool to a new folder on your computer, when you double click on the .exe it doesn't install it just opens the program, update it with all the latest virus definitions then close the program. Copy the entire folder to a pen drive and then run the now updated program on your daughters laptop directly from the pen drive, again it doesn't install it runs straight from the pen drive.

I am going to move this thread to the Securities forum and leave a temporary redirect in this forum.

Thank rjfvillarosa, I will try that. The laptop is still run a full scan using Windows Security Essentials, it is not finished but it is already showing sign of infections. I will let you know what the results are from both scans WSE and Emsisoft

I have run now scans with MSE, Malwarebytes, SuperAntispyware, and the Emsisoft Emergency kit. What came up was that Java exploit. I have removed the entry and got rid all together of Java (laptop had 2 entries that kept asking for updating in the system tray). Not sure really about how much you need Java to run a PC, but apparently some people have been doing it for a while since the exploit. i will pop up if I need anything else, thanks
