My original post here FTP was working, now it is not
After replacing a router in my network my FTP is no longer accessible from the outside world again. I am beginning to think that I should just connect my NAS to the primary router in my network. I am also thinking that I am making this harder on myself then necessary. I feel that my QNAP NAS can do a majority of this without my screwing it up. Thank you for any words of wisdom. |

glc - Thank you for being the voice of reason. I guess I have been making it rather difficult on myself.
Being I am getting ready to move I guess here is my chance to purchase a quality wireless router with more that 4 Ethernet ports. |

You don't need a router with more than 4 ports, all you need to do is get a standard Ethernet switch to add ports. More than one router in a network is a configuration nightmare. A standard 4 port router and 5 port switch will give you 7 usable ports for devices.

I just dug up an old 16 port switch as I am doing some major cleaning for the upcoming move. I will be adding that shortly for a dry run here in the old casa.

Is it a switch or a hub? A hub will impact performance.
Is it and your router both autosensing? If not, you may need to use the MDI-X port on one of them in order to use a standard (non-crossover) cable to interconnect them. |

The unit I just located is a switch. One of the reason I just located it is that I am cleaning up and packing up the casa. I will be moving soon and headed to St. Louis.
So, thanks for the information and I will use it once I get the new digs set-up. |
