Virus scanning

Maybe a dumb question, but...

a) What is the difference between running a virus scan in normal mode and safe mode?

b) If troubleshooting a computer with a suspected virus, would you be better off to just run the scans in safe mode?

Thanks!:)

Often safe mode does not load the virus before you can run the scan..... before in in normal mode.

Safe mode will often (but not always) not allow the malware to run.

The BEST way to scan a computer that you suspect and don't know what's going on is with a self-contained app on a bootable USB stick.

Right on, thanks for the tips, guys!
I'll try the USB trick.

Another good option is pull the drive and use an adapter to hotplug it to a bench machine with USB to scan it.
