Check my way of thinking

A friend let me know that they had gotten an email from me to click a link and thought I might have been hacked. However, she wasn't sure which email it was and had already deleted from her spam folder. Wouldn't that just as likely (or more likely) be that her computer was infected and they accessed her address book? I guess they could mine as well, but then would my sent items show the emails, or I suppose they could get the info and send from their own email showing my name as the sender. For that matter, there is no guarantee that it even had my email address as the sender.

I am trying to see which emails I would have sent to that address. It might be a newer address of hers at which point would help narrow it down. I think it might be the church's.

My parents recieved an similar email from a friend, and opened the email. It turns out their friends email account had been hacked and the address book was accessed. The email was then sent to everyone in their address book. My parents email account was then accessed and emails went out to everyone on their address book. Thankfully they found out and called to tell us to delete any emails from them. We found emails on my computer, and my son's and daughter's computer.

My parents contacted their ISP and were told to reset their account and change their password.

Many moons ago I received a mail from a dear friend, but it was a copy of mail she sent her daughter in college. Some very personal stuff. Friend's mail had been hacked and everyone in her contact list got copy of the mail. To this day I have no contact lists on any of my 5 mail accounts. I have addresses memorized that I use regularly and others written down if I want to mail them. Contact lists ain't safe.

I had no contacts really in my church email (I don't believe). The home address book (in Yahoo), didn't have that particular address entered in it, and from what I can tell none sent to or received from it. So, it appears that perhaps it is her computer, or they accessed my computer at church and found the address in emails received or sent, since I don't think she is in the address book there. I would have to double check though.

Quite sometime ago(I forgot who)our service provider blocked our outgoing emails because they said we were sending virus or something from our computer(don't exactly remember what they said we were sending), but we were accused of malicious activity thru our email.

I remember none of our computers appeared to have a virus or any spyware activity. We swore up and down we weren't doing it. But the provider said it was definitely coming from our end. Cleared all contacts/cleared caches/uninstalled email and reinstalled/ ran Spybot and AVG Couldn't figure it our fer nuttin'!

The final fix- I ended up formatting every one of our computers. Recheck with the provider and all was good. I think maybe it was fixed after my wife's was formatted, but I ended up doing the others anyway. I slightly remember my wife saying something about a specific email looking funny.

Any computer that has both of your addresses could have been hacked...

I am unsure which email it came from as she only saw my name and didn't look at the email. From my investigation, that email addy wasn't in the home one at all, and the address wasn't in a contact list on the church computer, I believe (but there were emails to and from in the inbox or sent folders).

Getting the friend to change the password to their email account is all you can do...unless they get another mail and can give you more info.

I wanted to make sure it isn't on my end, but from what I have found I don't hardly think so. I did send her a link to Malwarebytes.
