Cool Mapping Drive in Win98?

I network 3 or 4 computers together quite often for gaming purposes using 100meg network cards and cat 5 cable and it works pretty much ok.

For transferring files and the like I always go through network neighbourhood but am finding transfers quite slow. Would things be quicker if I mapped the drives available on all the computers? Is there any benefit at all from doing this?

Mapping drives will only make them appear as drive letters in My Compuer or a DOS window. If you're finding your transfers slow, you may only have 10 megabit cards, consider upgrading to 10/100 (of course, you're hub will have to be 10/100 as well).

Don't run a bunch of network protocols either, keep it down to just TCP/IP if you can.
