Getting File Sharing Programs To Work On A Network
Hi, this is my first post in the forum, and I hope it will be succesful!
I'm trying to get a file sharing program (like Kazaa or Morpheus) working on a network. I've got the firewalls IP address and I've tried configering various programs (KaZaa, Morpheus, LimeWire, mIRC, etc...) but I haven't had success with any. KaZaa and Morpheus don't even open and all the others won't connect. I've had an FTP program set up for me and under firewall settings it's got the IP address and port 20. Under LAN setting in IE it has the same IP address (I think) but on port 80. I've tried both ports under mIRC and I get connection regected by firewall on one and nothing happens with the other. We run Novel Netware on the system. I'm hoping to get mIRC and any file sharing program working. With your help of course. Thanks in advance. |

Is the firewall router based - if so what's the router specs - or is it software based or both?
You'll probably have to allow the proper ports to be enabled. |

Hi,
I agree with goodcanuck, you'll probably have to open the the proper port(s) for the programs to work. Morpheus, I'm pretty sure doens't use port 80. I'd open the program (like morpheus) to find out what port it is using, and if that port is blocked, try opening it to see if it works then. HTH Last edited by Floppyman; 03-31-2002 at 12:14 PM. |

I have no idea if the firewall is software or hardware based. Shouldn't the ports already be enabled if they are being used in IE and the FTP program?

Hi again,
Try figuring which port(s) morpheus, kazaa, etc., use and then see if your firewall blocks access to these port(s). If yes, then you will need to configure your firewall to allow traffic to pass through the port(s) for the programs that use these ports to work. HTH |

Thanks Floppyman,
I'll try that tomorrow but I don't know if it will work. Like I said, Kazaa and morpheus don't even open. I seem to remember that in mIRC I could set the port that it used. When I set it to Port 80 it said connection regected by firewall so I guess you must be right. But how is that possible. If FTP explorer can use that port shouldn't mIRC be able to use it? |
