Hi,

I've 2 pc's set up on a peer to peer lan using win98se internet connection sharing. The problem is that the computer with the connection won't see mine. I can access files on that computer with the connection but not the other way around. The work group name of mine shows up on that computer under networking, but when you double click on it...it says the computer can't be found. I'm typing this on mine...so the connection and file sharing on mine work fine...just the other computer and can't see mine. Any ideas? Thanks in Advance!

I had a similar problem, turned out to be a bad network card in the PC that saw both systems, not the PC that only saw one. I think the send portion of the card failed.

I have these protocols installed if it helps any on the machine that CAN see the other:

Dial up adapter
Linkys networking card
TCP/IP for Dialup adapter
TCP/IP for network card

The funny thing is on the other machine that can't see mine everything when I click on my workgroup the dialup connection becomes active. Thanks for reply btw.

I hate to say it, but, it could be the cable (if so, I will make you another one). To test this, reverse the cable and see if the problem computer is now working fine and the working computer is having problems.

Add NetBEUI protocals to both computers Floppy. Though it does no good for it to be bound to the dial-up connection, there's really no need to remove the binding. It WILL do a better job with your connection between computers though.

Check and see if IP addresses were set up for both pcs.

Why not try pinging the IP addresses for both cards.

What type of cabling are you using? Crossover or hub?

I haven't gotten to it yet...but since internet sharing works fine...I don't believe it's the cable....there is a setting though that I think is key...I have to uncheck "Allow this to be the default protocol" (for allow binding to atm) on the computer that can't see mine under the Networks cards TCP/IP Advanced tab....I think this is it because I know of two other computers that use Windows 98 ICS and on those it wasn't checked and they work flawlessly...I'll let you guys know. Thanks again.

Fixed it! Boy am I embarrased on this one....When I was trying to add my c: drive as a network drive to the computer that couldn't see mine I realized....I never had it setup to be shared on mine...DUH!...I just thought of that one nite of the blue; works flawlessly now. Thanks for all the help guys!
