Hi,
Is there a certain way to monitor amount of internet traffic from individual network PCs as the internet access bill in my wife's officeplace is skyrocketing. They are using a DSL to router/hub system. Thanks Linus |

setup a proxy server / gateway (www.squid-cache.org) and configure ur router to do transparent proxying.
Record the logs at ur squid server, and that will tell u exact usage per IP Address. (including site they have visited at what time) runs very well on linux and costs a BIG FAT zero. u can use specialised linux distro http://www.e-smith.net for a real quick fire install which works (less then 20 mts time) hth gtfx [This message has been edited by vitalstatistix (edited 07-26-2000).] |

Hi,
Went to the site and yep its the stuff i am looking for, however, her place runs on windows. The squid-cache is oriented to unix systems. Are there any windows based software that does these things? Thanks Linus |

There are loads of apps, but they arent as accurate, from very simple utils like www.analogx.com <- netstat live which just monitors TCP .. to lantrend : http://www.intellimax.com/lantrend.htm
or LANScan : http://www.owensville.com/ [This message has been edited by Ex-Static-Cling (edited 07-26-2000).] |
